This is understandable, and respectfully stated, but conveniently overlooks VT in 2009. You gained plenty of yards, but we led with under seven minutes left. IMO, this defense is better than that one.
The problem is that we are worried about our offense being able to score on teams not named Alabama, even once we learn the new system. Moving the ball much on you guys - in the first game with these coaches, no less - will be surprising to all of us.
I suppose. I like the kid and he's a great game manager but he's a stereotypical Nick Saban QB (a great one for the system). He hands off to his 1st rd running back 2-3 times in a row than throws to his All-American WR on a play action once the opposing team crowds the box. He is very good don't get my wrong, but he won't do much at the next level.
Great game manager, makes smart plays, doesn't do anything to lose Bama the game.
Not a shot at AJ, and not a question that can be answered. But if you put AJ behind VT's line last year, I wonder what kind of stats he would have put up.

A LOT better than Logan and probably would have gave Va Tech a chance at their side of the ACC.
Oh I agree that VT's defense was very well matched against our 09 offense, as were many defenses that year, but what is often overlooked due to all the accolades thrown at Alabama's defense is that the offense is starting to become every bit as feared as our defense. Take a look at the graph below, and understand that the not at all unrealistic expectation for next season is that the line on the right will grow even taller. The elite offensive skill position players that Bama used to regularly miss on are now signing. Bama is a freight train rolling down hill right now, and the only thing I see slowing it down is Saban's retirement.
Nobody was helping VT last year. It's easy to dog Logan and praise AJ, but when you look at their supporting casts, you understand why they had the kind of years they did.
Oh you mean stuff like this?
Stuff happens at every school.
5 on 3 = you guys have a chance IMNSHO
aj has more talent in his balls than our previous 2 had combined in their entire bodies
The man's got seriously talented balls. I think he's a damn good QB. Yes, surrounded by talent, but damn good.
Whats a Crimson Tide? And why the Elephant? Dumbo?
Did you hear Hoo got arrested? Thomas Jefferson would be proud!
I'll take the female talent he surrounds himself with any day
dont even get my started on his taint talent level, or so i have heard
Damn you think AJ would've run for 520 yards? I agree with Smitty, AJ is good but put him behind our line with our receivers and RBs and that boy would be on his hinny more than LT was last year.
Sounds like you know the way you're jerking him off on here.
Amen to that brother
whats up with frankies face?
Line at 22 isn't ridiculous. VT is not opening in the top 25, Bama is the defending NC and returns plenty of talent and VT fired 3 coaches are are in the midst of a new offense... the line is not "out of line". It is set to get 50% of the betters on either side and we'll see how that goes closer to the season. If both teams avoid any bad news in the pre-season (I hope so for both of us), we'll see what happens with the line. I expect it to go down just a bit, not because Bama isn't likely to cover, but a lot of people (casual bettor) will see +22 next to VT and go with it.
I really like Beamer and "Beamer-ball" with the emphasis on ST and D. I don't think the VT O will be able to give the D enough rest and the game gets ugly in the 2nd half. I think Bama will be able to run enough to make the PA dangerous and that is where the game breaks open. A bomb to Cooper/White on PA after at T/O or 3&out will start the rout. JMHO.
Can VT win? Sure, but LT will have to play his best game and VT will have to win the T/O battle by a 2+. Will Bama win by 22? Dunno, I could see anywhere from 17 to 28. Either way, I am looking forward to the season starting again.
Logans dumb mistakes with the football cost Va tech "mo", field position, team confidence, play calling ability, and points. Eliminate half of his dumb mistakes and Tech would have kept things alot more interesting. Those are mistakes AJ doesnt make that I have seen. Yes a supporting cast has tons of upside but a QB that is accurate smart and not willing to try and win the game himself will always give a team a better chance.
To be fair, a lot of Logan's mistakes were due to line breakdowns and defensive pressure. Not that that gives him a mulligan because a QB has to be good under pressure, but I'd like to think he makes fewer mistakes with a much better surrounding cast. AJ is a fine QB, but he had a ton more to work with than LT did his junior year.

I worry about Cooper a lot. I feel like Exum was probably the only player in our secondary seasoned enough and athletic enough to be able to wrap a guy like that up. More or less I'm just seeing a game similar to the one in 2009 where y'all get away from us late and pummel us into submission. I think our defense is good enough to keep it within 10-17 and will surprise Alabama faithful, but I could also see it getting easily out of hand. I just don't see where our offense is going to get points, or how they are going to sustain drives against that menacing Alabama front.
Watch out for Chris Black and Kenny Bell. Those two guys will be open on the regular becuase of Cooper getting attention. Chris Black is a match up nightmare in the slot.
I understand that but 20 turnovers or so including fumbles isnt going to win many games. That with a 50% completion rate and killing drives with bad accuracy really hurts teams.
