Since UVA last beat VT, Michael Phelps has won 18 gold medals in 3 Summer Olympics.
There have been 5 total Olympic Games in that period.
Phones weren't smart.
Actually, we've won a natty in bass fishing. You'll laugh, but only because your elitist Hoo(ver) upbringing keeps you out-of-touch with mainstream America. Fact is a more people bass fish than play lacrosse, women's tiddlywinks, marbles, or whatever other irrelevant sport you've won your 14 "national titles" in. More people pay attention to bass fishing than any of those sports. While there are multiple "outdoor" themed channels on TV dedicated to hunting and fishing, there are no channels dedicated to badminton, croquet, and the other sports UVa dominates in. To prove my point, the World Fishing Tour was on NBC this past weekend. When has women's indoor cycling ever been dedicated it's own time slot on national TV outside of the 10 minute blip the Olympics give it every four years? Bottom line is UVa has as many national titles as VT in any major sport that America follows: Zero. But VT is clearly the more dominant team in the #1 sport. Four outright ACC titles in eight years to UVa's zero since 1953, two BCS bowl wins to UVa's zero, and a national title game appearance. This-- just for starters.
This response probably angers you so just relax, sit back have nice glass of Zinfandel, and count to 3,000. I suspect it will calm you down.
Sounds like you Hoo(ver)s are putting all your marbles on the fact that VT can't replace Frank. I agree.....but here's where you're short-sighted:
You see, Frank has built a program. The program is now bigger than Frank. In other words, when Frank is gone someone steps in w/ A LOT of capital to work with: first-class facilities, a legendary home field, fertile recruiting grounds, tradition, and a rabid fan base w/ expectations that simply will NOT allow VT to slip back to where it was pre-Frank. High quality coaches will line up for the job...just like you saw in our recent asst coach searches.
You're looking at an above-average program at worst. May not ever be able to duplicate Frank's eight straight 10+ wins run, and we may have an occasional 7-6 type year but you're looking at a typical 8-4 to 10-2 type program, on average. Or.....we may hit a home run that put's us totally over the top.
Either way what VT is and will be is what UVA strives to become. You've been trying for 3,000 days, in fact. Keep fightin' the good fight.
My dog rusty has never seen a day that they held the CC
