Clarifying the UNC/Big Ten situation....

  • raleighoo said...

Hey I am with you that FSU departing would be a loss.. and a big one.. I am just not so sure that the ACC would implode if they left. Of course it could create a domino effect which would involve other defections. But I am speaking of FSU only..

I think any number of schools could create a domino effect and that includes UNC. hopefully, weather the storm and remain united.

  • If UVA and or UNC leaves then I think it would be to much for the ACC to overcome. Not that their football programs compare to FSU, but it would be a shot to the heart and soul of the conference.

No disrespect, but UVA alone would not.....UNC yes. UVA football and or basketball is a blip on the radar screen and no one gives a rat's arse about the other sports. UNC or one of the 'football' schools is a difft story.

Interesting on yor FSU scoop. But who would replace them if gone. Please dont tell me UCONN. ACC needs football not another B-ball school. IMHO Central Florida is a sleeping giant but do they fit ACC criteria.?

I agree about Central Florida. And yes, please no UCONN. Unless we can convince a team like Penn State to join (Many of their fans dislike the Big), or convince ND to get all in, we might would be forced to look at adding a Florida team. Without a Florida team to replace FSU, if they ever left, sure would isolate Miami far to the south...

UVA and UNC will never seperate themselves from each other. If you get one you get the other. I also dont think UVA would leave without knowing that VA Tech had a secure destination.

I think those old school allegiances are quickly blowing out the window in this environment....new day, changing times. many have suffered the consequences of arrogance. it's a big new world out there. but i do agree that UVA would certainly follow UNC

Well your right, times are changing for sure. I hope nothing changes and the ACC raises its level of play. This expansion stuff tires the brain...

We will agree on that....my lovely wife is a Tarheel and on this we all agree - it is a tired subject. I hope we weather the storm and see very bright days ahead as a conference.

Living in Raleigh all my life and being a UVA fan all my life has been tough. Surrounded by Tarheels and Wolfpackers. Va tech also has a small but respectable presence here. I have never had to "live" with a tarheel though. Although as a Redskin fan I somehow produced a son that became a lifelong Dallas fan. Still trying to figure out what went wrong..

Life long Skins fan here - no Cowboys 'fans' allowed under my roof ;)....but i suppose if it happened (or god forbid one decided to go to UVA or UNC) i would reluctantly not disown them

Well you have had to learn patience since your wife is a Tarheel. I did everything I could to convert my son but since the day he saw the "star" on the Dallas helments at five years old it has been a lost cause. We have something in common after all. Have a good evening. You are a good Hokie.. dinner time...
