CAPS!!!!! ... Suk it Boston!!!!

  • I hear ya, coach, but much of his hitting is worthless. He's playing so out of control. His attempts at hits in neutral ice are creating 3 on 2's for the opponent. I actually think he should cool it with some of the hitting and play more disciplined.

  • Here are a few pretty cool tidbits from the linked article:

Washington had the worst 2011-12 road record (16-21-4) of any of the 16 Stanley Cup playoff entrants. But the Capitals won three of the four road games they played to move on to the Eastern Conference semifinals.

Each of Washington’s last 18 Stanley Cup playoff wins has been delivered by a rookie goaltender.

A total of 450 minutes and 28 seconds of hockey were played in this series. And for 308 minutes and 47 seconds of that time, the score was tied.

The Caps had the only two-goal lead of the entire seven-game set. It came in Game 5, and it lasted all of 2:54.

From the time Hendricks scored at 11:23 of the first period until Tyler Seguin’s tying tally for the Bruins at 14:27 of the second period, the Caps held a lead for 23:04. That represents the longest either team held onto any lead at any point in the entire series.

  • I don't know. I'm no expert, but when Ovi is hitting - anybody for that matter - the whole team's intensity/confidence goes up a notch. Playing a wide open type game may not have been a good idea against Boston, but it is nice to know we can be successful at it, if needed. And it may work against some of our future opponents that won't be able to keep up with us.
Gone are the days of the Caps hoping to clutch and grab their way to a 1-0 victory - thankfully. We never had a prayer in those days, and it was painful coming close, but still losing close games, because we had nobody that was a threat to score. A one goal lead over the Caps used to mean you had iced the game. That would never be the case now, and most of that credit goes to Ovi, IMO. He is at the top of every team's game plan.

Small debate when all is said and done. I'm just ecstatic about this victory. Beating the defending champs, winning one goal games, winning OT, winning a game 7...on the road??? I'm in heaven. This stuff just doesn't happen for the Caps. I've been on board since '74 listening to games on the radio on school nights as i drifted off to sleep. I really feel we have a shot this go 'round, and it's been a long time coming!

  • Ya, I'm a long time fan, as well. Went to games as a season ticket holder with family since the early 80's. Remember the chants of "Riggin, Riggin" and "Jensen, Jensen" for the Pat Riggin and Al Jensen goalie tandem early on. As a kid, I was so psyched when I got Ron Weber's autograph (radio play by play guy). I was at the LaFontaine/4OT game. I'll never forget the stunned silence in that place when the goal went in. F'ing Kelly Hrudey!

  • That game could only happen to the Caps. I was working tending bar that night, but I remember it well. Just MISERY!
I think that victory last night makes up for it, though. Ha. It sure was sweet.

  • I'm so glad I won't have to see Marchand's little rat face running around taking cheap shots, instigating, and diving.
