Baseball America post today on the Hokies...

  • Alex (Virginia): Where do you see UVA right now, did their two wins down at ECU move the needle at all for you? I'm more than a little biased here but Virginia Tech gave up 14 hits and 9 runs to Kent State and they move in?

Aaron Fitt: Yeah, it moved the needle — it came down to four teams for our last two spots, and we went with Va Tech and Irvine, with UVa and Miami right on the cusp, followed by Texas and Arizona State. Certainly impressed with Virginia's weekend, but even more impressed with Virginia Tech's 4-0 weekend against two good clubs. The middle of Virginia Tech's lineup might be as good as any in the country, and I thought it was very encouraging how well the Hokies pitched in the final three games of their weekend. Even the game its pitching struggled against Kent State, VT found a way to win, because its offense is fearsome. And lest you forget, Virginia's No. 2 starter (Silverstein) and its top recruit (Kirby) gave up nine runs to ECU this weekend, and I don't believe ECU's offense is going to be spectacular this year. Anyway, those teams are close, and you can make a case for either, but we are high on the Hokies and wanted to reward them for their four-win weekend.

Your coach is awesome and has the program headed in the right direction. He is a "players coach" and that is what it takes to be successful in this day and age. I would like nothing better to see Tech and UVA dominate the ACC at the same time. I doubt it will be this year as the hoos are very very young. Not sure what you guys have? Definitely a great weekend for Tech though.

Thanks for the compliments hoo! Our offense is going to be downright nasty and if we can get the same stuff from our pitching as we did this weekend we might have something this year, our defense makes me a little nervous, I believe we committed quite a few errors this past weekend, but very excited about the team we have this year!

Thanks for the kind words... Our guys can hit with anyone, one of the most potent offenses in the country (on paper and through the first 4 games).. Starting pitching/depth is a question mark, we'll have to wait a couple weeks or so to answer that question.

We are very deep at all positions, only bad thing is we back up sophomores with Freshman and vice versa. We do have some big sticks in the line up. BOC's challenge is to find all of these kids playing time. Pitching, well we shall see about that. Again, we have some really good freshman arms that will need to be worked into the program slowly. We have a couple of guys from from Tommy John surgery that could give us a boost by ACC time. If everything keeps going as it is the state should have two good baseball teams. Dont cound out LU though. They went down and gave USC-east all they could handle for a three game series. They lost 2 games by 2 runs and won the other by 1.

I played with and against Kenny Towns back in the day, I'm really happy to see him having success. Gragnani as well, really hoping he can stay healthy.

The last time UVA won a bowl game 99.99999% of their fan base didn't even know they played baseball.

This is a baseball thread numnuts. Actually UVA baseball is well supported. We sellout the majority of our home games. Hell we will have more people at the stadium for the Miami series that VT will have in total for the year. I subtracted the attendance for the UVA/VT series since half the fans in attendance will be rooting for UVA. Vt baseball will be just like VT basketball. You will win a few games at the start of the season and everyone here will be crowing about them. When VT starts losing, no one here will post about the team again in 2013. That should start in mid March.

Makes sense a Hoo don't want to talk football because y'all suck, have done so for a long time and will continue to do so. How does it feel to have such a lousy head coach, one that needs a mentor, and yet is the 3rd highest paid in the ACC. Your rate of return, wins per dollar, is not very good.

Why do we have to read posts like this on a VT board? Get this idiot out of here.

This post shows just how dumb you really are. How many hoos were talking about college baseball in 2005? NOT A DAMN ONE.

so is this the 5th or 6th year anniversary of every Hoo becoming a life long baseball fan?
