as a mountain bike owner myself, those bikes(treks) usually cost around 6-800 dollars with standard equipment assuming it's a hardtail not full suspension...start adding premium brakes, wheels, etc....it can reach well into the thousands. I built 2 bikes from the ground up and one of them costed a little over a grand(hardtail) and the other one i built with middle of the line to premium equipment and it costed about 3300 to build(full suspension). if you were to buy that same bike from the store, it would fetch close to 4400.
