Are VT/UVA a package deal?

  • We haven't had enough realignment talk lately so that I would test the waters. :)
    A lot of people seem to think so and based on some of our actions, I understand why.
    Is there a leftover loyalty from UVA making sure we were brought in from the Big East?
    I'd love someone truly connected to give an answer but I doubt that happens.
    And fwiw, I think the FSU to Big12 talk is posturing...for now. You hear mixed reports on revenue sharing and you don't know what to believe.
    However, if the schools that bring in the most money to their conference in the biggest money-maker of them all (football, duh) are continually treated like second class citizens by a Carolina blueblood commissioner, you have to realize you are doing your university, the athletes, alumni, and fans a huge disservice and go somewhere you are given the respect you deserve.
    Reminds me of the great pulp fiction scene I've attached...just replace the name Marcellus Wallace with VT, FSU, etc and the super nerdy Brett is of course Duke or UNC...

  • No. This has been answered previously by the insiders insiders.

    UVA is an ACC team - UNC / Duke / Wake / UMD / GT / BC... Think of places that Al Groh would be welcome at a wine and cheese mixer and that's the core of the ACC.

    If we can make more money and expand the scope of the Commonwealth, just as South Carolina has benefited from having both USC-E and Clemson, it makes perfect sense for us to go.

    If VT, FSU, Clemson, and UNC, all went to other conferences, UVA would be happier than a pig in poop, and could actually have a realisitic chance to win the ACC. Good chance at least. Well, reasonable chance. Possibility maybe. Probably still couldn't win it.

    We would take all of the in-state recruits if we went to the SEC... They would not be able to compete.

    im a hokie through and through, parents are hokies, siblings are hokies etc., but i have to be honest here....i effing love cheese, and i like wine. I do drink beer more often. there seems to be this myth that only people from uva drink wine, well, i'm calling everybody out right now. when i was in the burg, i saw PLENTY of people drinking wine.....just sayin.

    i think we should keep the zima (sp?) story rolling because I NEVER saw people drinking zima at VT.

  • FSU to the Big 12? I don't see it happening. But I wouldn't be surprised to see Swofford forced out in the very near future. The football schools have had it with him. He's a UNC guy after all.

    UNC has been cheating their asses off for years under Butch and couldn't get a sniff of a conference championship...what does their leaving the ACC have any bearing on anyone in that regard? You might as well have said Duke.

  • I don't think so, UVa doesn't want us in their conference, and if anything the last 8 years proved that. The only issue I see with UVA to the B1G is that if the ACC folds ND will go to the B1G and so will MD, not sure UVA will have a place unless they take 2 more. But IMO the B1G would love to have UVA and maybe take a GT with them.

    Haaaaa. True. I actually thought I needed to throw in another team from Coastal. Duke would have been just as good of a choice

    My understanding is that it's the opposite: Bigger market, better school.

    It would require the BIG giving up on ND and ACC armageddon, but the BIG's top choices are UNC, UVA and Duke with GT and MD fighting for the last slot.

    Soccer, yes. Lacrosse, I think a few teams compete as independents, OSU, Michigan, OSU

  • Tech is not hooked at the hip with uva.....when/if the acc implodes we can be gobbled biggrin up by the SEC and uva can go to the ivy league.....Tech can continue to fight for a national championship and uva can continue to........well at least they will be on a more level playing field and maybe some day win those 10 games all in one season and compete for a league championship....rumor

    I have seen the question of VT to the SEC posed in thread after thread, and pretty much without exception, the SEC folks think VT would make a good addition. Pose the same question about UVA and the response is the complete opposite.
