I think sticking in the ACC is more risky than taking an offer from a bigger conference. Switching conferences if given the opportunity is a great move, even if it's nothing more than to avoid risk.
Besides, hasn't anyone ever heard of the term "the rich get richer" there's truth in that statement, and the schools joining the new conferences will see an increase in funds.

But that's kind of the point, the fact that it'd dependent on the ACC is the risk, and that risk is lower than the SEC regardless.
SEC = More money, guaranteed importance ACC = Less money, unclear future (although most likely safe), less competitive
If you line it up like that it's a no brainer. If VT officials outside of athletics have not been able to see how much our academics have improved since Vick and the rise of VT football, or if they just ignore the correlation, they are blind.
