Virginia Tech and expansion

Virginia Tech Hokies

Virginia Tech and the Southeastern Conference would be an excellent match, provided the dominoes fall in a certain direction with regards to the latest realignment talk.

    • Was wondering what the guru's thoughts were about the best interest of VT as related to expansion. Assuming that ND does go to the Big12(along with FlaSt and Clem) then that would decimate the ACC. So would we be better off making a strong push back into the SEC or try and become a member of the Big12??? My opinion, the only thing that saves the ACC now would be ND committing to the ACC in all sports. If that happened, I feel FlaSt and Clem stays put and the ACC adds one more team to become a stronger conference. I don't see that happening, ND goes to the Big12.................I for one think we should beat on the SEC door and ask to be forgiven for last years shun, promising that we make the Best football conference even better. What do ya'll think??

    • Seriously, why would we stay in the ACC? In order to be viable, it has to get stronger. The ACC cannot maintain the status quo. Should the composition of the ACC not change, the conference will have to survive these scenarios every year at this time.

Is Notre Dame really the answer? The ACC will have to give them something nice to attract them to conference life they have never previously desired. So let’s give special treatment to a new league member so the ACC can survive. Does this improve matters for VT?

Even without a formal invitation, do you not feel wanted by the SEC?

Even after winning our conference championships and maintaining 10 win seasons, do you not still feel the cold shoulder of the ACC?

Why can’t we think for ourselves? Why does our future have to be contingent on the thoughts and actions of FSU, CU, or ND?

How is going to the SEC not in VT’s best interest?

    • It was alwys my understanding that first you tell your conference you are going to explore, then you must formally apply to the conference of choice and then that conference meets to vote on acceptance or denial. I f you are accepted you notify your conference and then all hell breaks out. Now I believe that most schools like Tech will have third party contact and approval before even going to step one. Please correct me if this is wrong.

agree fully. we are married to this idea that we wont do anything until someone else does....but that makes no sense. We have a better option. An option that will secure our football (cash cow) future yet we are gonna wait hope and pray the ACC gets stronger as a conference and hope other schools in our conference stop talking to other conferences about leaving.

    • We have to be married to that idea due to the political influence that got us in to the ACC. Being the first to break away would cost a lot of people of influence badly as several calling in favors.

I can't imagine the fallout that would occur if VT killed the ACC. It just can't happen and our administration is smart enough to know that. This notion of jumping ship first is absurd.

No it's better if they meet in his(Sabans) office so he can push his button when they walk in the door.

Absurd? What's absurd is thinking ND is gonna come save your conference and having to listen to the rumors that people are gonna blow up the conference. If not now its gonna happen at some point. Maybe this all dies down and we can go through this again next year and hope and pray no one leaves. That's also absurd.

      Just my opinion
