A broader look at VT recruiting

247Sports introduced a new way for fans of college football recruiting to track and rate their favorite program’s recruiting class. The 247Composite weighs equally the rankings and ratings of four of the major recruiting media networks, including 247Sports.

Holland Fisher

Virginia Tech commit Holland Fisher is the nation's No. 61 overall prospect according to the 247Composite, which weighs equally the rankings/ratings of the four major recruiting media outlets.

About 247Composite

The 247Composite Rating is a proprietary algorithm that compiles prospect "rankings" and "ratings" listed in the public domain by the major media recruiting services. It converts average industry ranks and ratings into a linear composite index capping at 1.0000, which indicates a consensus No. 1 prospect across all services.

The 247Composite Rating is the industry's most comprehensive and unbiased prospect ranking and is also used to generate 247Sports Team Recruiting Rankings.

More details

-All major media services share an equal percentage in the 247Composite Rating.

-The composite index equally weights this percentage among the services that participate in a ranking for that specific prospect.

-A composite strength meter, indicated by red bars, illustrates the total number of industry services that have ranked the prospect. A full strength meter indicates the prospect has been ranked by all industry services participating in the composite.

-All industry services have a different philosophy on number of "stars" distributed with each class. The 247Composite Rating assigns stars based on an approximate average distribution of stars from the industry.

Team Rankings

In order to create the most comprehensive Team Recruiting Ranking without any notion of bias, 247Sports Team Recruiting Ranking is solely based on the 247Composite Rating.

Using the 247Composite, the 247Sports team football recruiting rankings for the Class o f 2012 now gives Virginia Tech the nation’s No. 24 overall class and the No. 4 overall class in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The Hokies have enrolled nine prospects in 2012 that rated four stars or better using the 247Composite, compared to only six prospects rated four stars or higher from 247Sports.

Wide receiver Joel Caleb, defensive end Ken Ekanem, running back J.C. Coleman, cornerback Donaldven Manning, defensive end Jarontay Jones, running back/linebacker Trey Edmunds, safety Deon Clarke, linebacker Devin VanDyke and athlete Der’Woun Greene all rate four stars according to 247Composite. Only Caleb, Ekanem, Coleman, Jones, Edmunds and Clarke were rated four stars by 247Sports.

Running back Drew Harris was a four-star prospect according to the 247Composite and 247Sports. He did not qualify academically and will spend this season at Fork Union Military Academy.
