Looking at Logan Thomas

Logan Thomas

Virginia Tech quarterback Logan Thomas could have a special season in 2012.

Virginia Tech quarterback Logan Thomas is poised for a big year in 2012. How does he stack up historically with other Hokies signal callers and can he win the Heisman?

    • I agree with you regarding the VT offense not being set up to support a Heisman season; however, if there ever were a year for a QB to be the show, this may be it. 3 sr. WRs (two with NFL potential), young RB that may shift he focus to LT and the passing game, and the potential for a very good OLine. It is not out of the realm of possibility. Add in the fact that the coaches may realize they only have him for this year and who knows....

    • I think the loss of Coale and Boykin is really going to hurt LT's #'s this year. But if anyone has the ability to overcome it and make things happen, its LT. Im VERY interested to see how he has progressed and how he gels with the new wr's.

    • I am not so sure about that. While I loved DC and JB, it appears to me that Coles and Davis have more upside potential. Do not count out Dyrell as well. I just think that while both DC and JB were great hokies and terrific football players, we may see higher passing numbers this year. Both Davis and Coles are Sr. players and have worked with LT for 2 years now. I have to admit I am a bit of a PATT regarding our o this year. biggrin

    • I think Coale and Boykin were tremendous but I am not so sure Davis and Coles will be a drop off. If they stay healthy along with DR to stretch the field I think we will be in good shape. Also, I like the fact that everyone is high on Holmes ability to handle his blocking assignments. I think that will be crucial for LT and if it turns out that Holmes can move the ball as the coaches seem to think very good things are in front of this team.

Couldnt disagree more. Coale & Boykin were PERFECT wr's for a new QB. They bailed him out on a lot of bad passes and were about as reliable as it gets. Maybe Davis & Coles have more flash and more "game breaking" ability, but they have yet to prove to be as reliable as DC & JB were. But, like I said, a lot is going to depend on how far LT has progressed.

Coles, Davis, and Roberts, have 156 receptons for 2,346 yards, and 16 td's. Lot of experience between those 3. I looked at a lot of VT highlights a few days ago, and who really stood out to me was marcus Davis. Yes, he has to improve on consistency, but he had some remarkable highlights and huge plays, circus catches, and one hand grabs. As far as Dyrell, you house a KO against Bama, who goes on to win the NC, along with face planting the final defender at the 15, and you definitely got something most will never have. Real flashes of brilliance from Dyrell at times. Coles doesn't have the flashiness of either, but can be a very dependable receiver. I think the loss of Boykin is easier to overcome than the loss of Coale, who might have 2 drops during his entire career at VT.

Vt desperately needs at least 2 receivers not named coles, Roberts, or Davis, to get a substantial amount of playing time this season, or you start out against Bama next year with virtually all new receivers through the 3 deep.

Bill, I know you are a great American, and the last person on earth to disagree with one of our beloved U.S. Senators, specifically Mark Warner, who declared Danny Coale's catch against Michigan to be good. I have no reason to doubt Senator Warner. Never once has the man lied to me.

Completely agree with you. Boykin and Coale bailed the offense out period like TT used to do when he would run for his life until a WR would break free. The more I look at, the more I see the offense struggling mightely. I just don't have faith with the offensive playcalling. Color me jaded by the Clemson and Michigan games and then subtract two of our most reliable recievers ever in Boykin and Coale and one the most dynamic RB we've ever had equal struggles.

      Yup

Sorry but your cred just took a hit. I can't believe you used the words Senator and never lied in the same paragraph. But aside from that it was obvious that DC made the catch and in my book it was the most outstanding reception by any receiver the entire year. Too bad he was shafted.

Only because it fit my agenda. Haaaa.

Yeah, VT robbed of a BCS win, and Coale robbed of the greatest catch of 2011, and one of the greatest in BCS history. If it was ruled incomplete, I could understand not overturning it. But out of 50 impartial sports fans, you could not find 2 that believe the catch should have been overturned. I remember afterwards on several boards, even wvu, UVA, and unc, fans that admittedly hated VT agreed it should not have been overturned.
