According to AuburnUndercover.com's Bryan Matthews, Jeff Grimes was successful at recruiting national-level offensive line prospects at Auburn because of his recruiting contacts throughout the country.

Zone blocking... I am just not a huge fan; however, it is possible that we just did not have a good teacher. I know it can be successful. I just hope we can teach it properly.

Am I the only one who thinks Grimes kind of looks like Bud's long lost son? And that's totally cool if he is and makes me like him even more FWIW.

I dont mean this to sound bad, but he comes across as having a very "soft" way of coaching... He sounds like a great, likable, guy, but I thought that was what Newsome was too. We have become soft as a program and I was hoping to get someone who was more hardcore and intense. This guy just seems to be a really nice guy...
I am not ragging on him as I could be way off base but that is my impression after reading the article.
I hope he is great and proves me wrong over the next 3-4 years.

Good interview. It does bother me a little that his coaching at Auburn was incomplete as to his ability. His first two years were wth an experienced line that were there when he arrived. Also, I'm not sure how you can coach positions that require so much aggressiveness in a quiet way. I would think you would want the guys to come off the snap like gangbusters.
Seems to be a super recruiter and I'm feel that he will be a major upgrade from his predecessor.

That's sounds awesome. I'll pose one point: The article mentions the Patriots, but the patriots are a FINESSE team offensively and can be beat by MORE PHYSICAL teams (49ers). Is he a finesse O-line coach?

Clearly Grimes can recruit. What recruits (2013 or 2014), if any, that Grimes is currently the lead on are likely to give VT consideration now that we have Grimes on our staff?

Very excited about having Coach Grimes, comes off to me as a guy with quiet intensity. But still gonna demand perfection, which for me is the biggest problem i've had with our offensive coaching the last few years.

What I like is he seems very authentic. He's not playing a role, he is who he is and you have to respect that. I've always harkened to and will fight for those who I believe that walk the walk.

Newsome's zone blocking was different. Zone blocking is what basically every NFL team does now on running plays. Mike Shanahan made the Redskins OL, which is a band of misfits and one great LT, one of the best run blocking units in the league. Don't blame "zone blocking."
