Prodigy Maryland ATH camps at VT

It’s never too early to start uncovering prospects that have the potential to be college recruits in the future. One such player, 2016 receiver Tino Ellis, attended Virginia Tech’s prospect camp this past weekend and looks to be a star in the making.

Tino Ellis, a Class of 2016 athlete, camped at Virginia Tech this past Saturday.

The 6-foot, 170-pound rising freshman in high school was much younger than most of his peers this past weekend, but that did not stop him from impressing a lot of people.

“I had an awesome time this weekend,” he said. “I learned a lot. I felt like I did pretty well against the older competition. I love competing.”

While Ellis has yet to play a down in high school, the coaching staff at DeMatha has already expressed their excitement to have him.

“I’ll be on the varsity this year," he said. "We start practice on Aug. 7 and I’m really looking forward to it.”

While it is still incredibly early, Virginia Tech is not the only school to know about Ellis at this stage in the game.

“Maryland has sent me camp invitations and stuff. It’s just awesome to see that some college football programs know who I am already.”

Virginia Tech does have a strong connection to Ellis, one that could pay huge dividends down the road.

“Donovan Riley, the cornerback who is going to be a freshman at Tech this year, is my cousin,” Ellis said. “It’s a big deal to me that he is at Tech. He’s an awesome cornerback, and he coming here shows me that it is a great school. I really wanted to get down this weekend to see what the school was all about and I love it. I love Virginia Tech. I know it is a long ways away before I will get to college but with Donovan choosing to be here and what I’ve seen today, I love the school already.”

After this camp, Ellis wasn’t sure of his plans for the rest of the summer.

“I don’t really know yet what I’m going to be doing. I’m just working hard to get ready for the high school season to start. I’m not sure if I’m going to do any other camps though.”

While 247sports has not begun ranking prospects for the class of 2016, this is a name that all Virginia Tech fans will need to keep a close eye on. He could very well become one of the top targets on the East Coast for his class moving forward.
