Youngstown (Ohio) Ursuline quarterback Chris Durkin has flipped his commitment from Michigan State to Virginia Tech.
The four-star Durkin had been committed to the Spartans since March.
"Hardest thing I've had to do in my life," Durkin said.
"I think an opportunity to see the playing field earlier in his career was the deciding factor," Chris Durkin Sr. added. "Michigan State did nothing wrong in the recruiting process. They were nothing but gentlemen and any player should be honored to play there. At the end of the day it's a business decision and at the end of the day this might be the best decision for Chris."
Durkin will visit Virginia Tech sometime in January.
Ranked by 247Sports as the nation's No. 16 pro-style quarterback, Durkin originally chose Michigan State over scholarships from Cal, Illinois, Indiana and Northwestern.
Durkin is the 25th commit for Virginia Tech in the class-of-2014.
